What is not publishedthe gaps we looked for and did not find

Air Ecology, Water Integrity, EMF Harmony and Sound and Sensory Ecology have nothing published that this standard can score, and each is recorded as an honest zero rather than a judgement. On air, the property and its press publish an outdoor kitchen at each Residence, a Robata grill in one dining venue and, in design press image alt text, a ceiling fan in a bedroom; booking platforms list air conditioning. Those are combustion sources and air movement, not a filtration grade, a fresh air rate, or any carbon dioxide, particulate or volatile organic compound reading, none of which is published. On water, the property and BCSS publish that two new freshwater wells were created for island residents, which is a community programme rather than the guest supply, and the 3D printing mortar uses seawater; no source, treatment train, filtration specification, laboratory panel or pool sanitation method is published for the Residences, and no desalination system is named on any source found. That absence is stated with a limitation on its face: Kisawa's own 2023 to 2025 impact reports are image based PDFs that could not be searched, and archpaper.com, cladglobal.com, outthere.travel, the OutThere PDF mirror, the Wetu brochure and Journeys by Design all refused automated reading. Water treatment may sit inside those documents unread. This is a limit of the review, not a finding about the property. On EMF, the property publishes Smart TV and WIFI in the Residences and an off grid 801.15 kW solar and 2140.5 kWh battery system built by NSE Africa; wireless in an amenity list is not a disclosure either way, generation is energy rather than exposure, and no network topology, wired data provision, access point placement, shielded cabling, field reading or opt out is published. On sound, a Sriwijaya Sound Healing treatment is published at the wellness centre, which is a service rather than an acoustic specification; no background noise level, separation detail or plant noise figure is published. Material evidence that exists but is not scored on a pathway includes Sudpave paving named for the road system, which is not a guest contact material, and an estimated cement reduction of up to 60 percent, which is an embodied material quantity rather than an exposure measurement. Room and plot areas are published but include decks, outdoor day zones and pools, so they measure no pathway. The Bazaruto Center for Scientific Studies research output, including its acoustic and oceanographic datasets, is a separate entity and is excluded from every pathway. Two further statements the property publishes are recorded here rather than scored, because the only page carrying either is the home page, which changes without notice and cannot support a citation: that the fruit and vegetables for the Kisawa Kitchen are grown pesticide free, with no certification or third party behind it, and that the design intent was to blend rather than interrupt the landscape, with no palette, species list or method named.

Regional context2 public figures about the area, none of which scores

Public data about the surrounding area. None of it contributes to the score, because a property cannot be marked down for the conditions outside it.

  • Safely managed drinking water, Mozambique: The World Health Organization reports 28 per cent of the population nationally, 48 per cent in urban areas, 15 per cent in rural areas using a safely managed drinking water service. This describes the country, not this property, and says nothing about what reaches a guest room here. It is recorded because it is the background against which a property's own treatment is worth publishing. Source
  • Ambient PM2.5 and PM10 near Benguerra Island, Mozambique: Modelled ambient air over this location averaged 7.5 micrograms per cubic metre of PM2.5 and 11.9 of PM10 across the 720 hours to 2026-08-17, peaking at 18.3 PM2.5. The World Health Organization annual guideline for PM2.5 is 5. This is the outdoor air over the area, modelled rather than measured on site, and it is not a reading of the air inside any room. Source
Not published is not unsafehow to read these scores, and what this index does not promise

A low score means a property has not published information. It does not mean the property is unsafe, unhealthy or poorly run.

These scores measure disclosure. These scores describe disclosure, not property quality. This index has no commercial relationship with the properties listed unless a badge on the listing says otherwise.

Conditions change, and we will not always know. Every record is a snapshot of what a property had published when we read it, and that date is on the page. Conditions change: a property can refit, change suppliers or replace a system at any time, and nothing requires it to tell us. We re-read records and ask properties directly for updates, but there will always be a gap between what is true today and what was published when we looked. Use this as a frame of reference for what to ask, not as a substitute for asking. Take your own questions to the property before you book, and tell us if you find something we have wrong.

We report what properties publish. We do not inspect, certify or vouch for any property on this index unless a listing says we assessed it on site, and we accept no responsibility for decisions made or outcomes experienced on the basis of what you read here.
